At a glimpse

Below, you will find a glimpse view on the projects jointly funded under SNOWMAN. To get more information just click on the project's acronym named on the right side of the project headline.

  Project SN-01/03: PERSPEC
Long title: Perspectives on mobilisation of prioritised contaminants in soil
Countries: Sweden (coordinator), United Kingdom, Austria
Objectives: The aim of this project is to compile current knowledge on how atmospheric and hydrological processes such as a change in temperature, groundwater level or change in precipitation pattern will influence soil system processes, such as the mobilisation of contaminants to, within and from soils, with focus on priory substances according to the European Water Framework Directive such as metals, and persistent organic pollutants.
  Project SN-01/18: MUSA
Long title: Integrating Multiple Scale Assessment on Ecosystems for Contaminated Land Management
Countries: France (coordinator), the Netherlands
Objectives: The overall objective of the project is to develop an innovative decision support tool for Sustainable Land Management providing ecological risk estimate at the local and short-term scale but also at a broader time and space scale. This purpose will be reached using two axis of work: the use in parallel of Ecological Risk Assessment and Life Cycle Assessment tools in one assessment of contaminated land and management strategy; and the acquisition of new knowledge related to chemical and biological availability of metals in soil.
  Project SN-01/19: IOPSIM
Long title: (Im)mobilization of organic pollutants by soil constituents in the soil/groundwater system - Strategies for innovative management
Countries: Austria (coordinator), Germany, the Netherlands
Objectives: General goal of the project is the prevention and the risk-based management of organic pollutants in the soil and groundwater system with special focus on mobilization and immobilization processes and related risks.
  Project SN-01/20: SUMATECS
Long title: Sustainable management of trace element contaminated soils - Development of a decision tool system and its evaluation for practical application
Countries: Austria (coordinator), Czech Republic, Flanders (Belgium), France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Objectives: The aim of this project is to make a literature and project-based review to identify the current status of research and application in Europe and to (i) derive decision tool systems, remediation scenarios including the potential impacts on the local environment and (ii) define further research needs.
  Project SN-01/24: ENACT
Long title: Extending the Natural Attenuation of Chlorinated solvents Toolbox
Countries: The Netherlands (coordinator), Flander (Belgium), Germany
Objectives: The objective of this project is to enhance the toolbox for MNA of chlorinated solvents by including stable chlorine isotope analysis and to demonstrate its use at contaminated sites.
  Project SN-01/33: Rejuvenate
Long title: Rejuvenate: Crop Based Systems for Sustainable Risk Based Land Management for Economically Marginal Degraded Land
Countries: United Kingdom (coordinator), Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden
Objectives: Rejuvenate is exploring opportunities for combining marginal land reuse, organic matter recycling, risk management and biomass production.
